Ripple CEO Calls MicroStrategy Model Harmful, Stays Bullish on Bitcoin

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse remains optimistic on Bitcoin but criticized the strategy of funding crypto purchases via preferred stock issuance, calling financial engineering value-destructive.

Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said he remains optimistic about Bitcoin as an asset, but took aim at the corporate strategy model—widely associated with MicroStrategy—of financing crypto acquisitions by issuing preferred stock.

"Financial engineering does not create long-term value," Garlinghouse stated, arguing that such an approach is harmful to the market. His comments distinguish between his positive outlook on Bitcoin itself and his skepticism toward leveraged corporate accumulation tactics.

The remarks come amid ongoing debate over the sustainability of debt- or equity-fueled Bitcoin buying programs, which have drawn both praise for accelerating institutional adoption and criticism for amplifying risk.
