Retail Exit from Magnificent Seven Hits Lowest Level in Four Years

Retail participation in Magnificent Seven stocks has slumped to a four-year low. Over the five trading days ending Friday, retail investors made up only 6% of total trading volume in the group, according to data cited by The Kobeissi Letter. This marks the lowest reading since at least 2022, with individual investors showing less interest in the megacap tech names on roughly 85% of trading days over that period.

The decline is sharp compared to earlier peaks. During 2023 and 2024, retail trading accounted for over 20% of Magnificent Seven volume at times, and it remained above 15% for most of 2025. The 5-day moving average of retail volume has fallen to approximately 25 million shares, the lowest in at least 18 months and a 79% drop from the April 2025 high of about 120 million shares.

Meanwhile, retail interest appears to be rotating toward semiconductor stocks, though exact numbers were not provided. The shift suggests a change in risk appetite among individual traders.
