PBOC Sets USD/CNY Reference Rate at 6.8157

The People's Bank of China set the USD/CNY central rate at 6.8157 on Friday, higher than the previous fix of 6.8203 but above the Reuters estimate of 6.7735.

USDCNY

The People's Bank of China (PBOC) set the USD/CNY reference rate for Friday's trading session at 6.8157. This compares with the previous day's fix of 6.8203 and the Reuters estimate of 6.7735.

The new rate represents a slight strengthening of the yuan against the dollar relative to the prior day, but falls short of market expectations for a stronger fix. The fix is used as a guide for the daily trading band, within which the yuan can move.

Traders will watch for any further PBOC signals amid ongoing global dollar weakness and China's efforts to manage currency stability.
