Iranian Newspaper Editor Revives Claim That Bahrain Is Part of Iran

Hossein Shariatmadari, editor of the hardline Iranian newspaper Kayhan, has stated that Bahrain is historically part of Iranian territory and was separated through a conspiracy involving the former Shah, the UK, and the US.

Hossein Shariatmadari, the editor-in-chief of the hardline Iranian newspaper Kayhan, has revived a historical claim that Bahrain is rightfully part of Iran. In his remarks, he alleged that the island nation was separated from Iranian territory as a result of a conspiracy involving the former Shah of Iran, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The statement reasserts a long-standing territorial dispute that has periodically surfaced in Iranian political discourse. Bahrain, an independent kingdom and a key ally of Saudi Arabia and the United States in the Persian Gulf, has previously rejected such claims as baseless.
