Iran Parliament Speaker Condemns Israeli Attacks, Questions US Commitment

Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf criticized Israeli strikes on Beirut, saying the U.S. either lacks the will or ability to fulfill commitments. His remarks cast doubt on the future of the Iran nuclear deal.

Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf responded to Israeli attacks on Beirut, Lebanon, which occurred on the same day President Trump claimed a peace deal was imminent. Ghalibaf stated that the strikes have "shown that America either lacks the will to fulfill its commitments or the ability to do so."

He further argued that granting "green light" to Israel does not yield concessions and called the "bad cop and good cop" tactic outdated. "If you lack the will and ability to fulfill your commitments, speaking of continuing the path is not possible," Ghalibaf said.

The comments raise fresh uncertainty over the Iran nuclear deal, commonly referred to as the Iran Deal, which now appears at risk again.
