EIA Sees US Natural Gas Demand Rising Through 2027, Lowers World Oil Outlook

The US Energy Information Administration projects US natural gas demand to increase to 95 Bcf/d in 2027 from 91.2 Bcf/d in 2025, while cutting its forecasts for world oil demand and supply for 2026-2027.

The EIA's latest short-term energy outlook indicates a steady rise in US natural gas demand. Consumption is forecast at 92.1 Bcf/d in 2026, up from 91.2 Bcf/d this year, and expected to reach 95 Bcf/d in 2027, compared to an earlier estimate of 94.4 Bcf/d.

For world oil, the agency expects demand to decline to 102.9 million bpd in 2026 from 104.2 million bpd, with a 2027 forecast of 105.3 million bpd — below the previous 105.6 million bpd. World oil output is also projected lower: 99 million bpd in 2026 (down from 101.6 million bpd) and 109.3 million bpd in 2027 (down from 109.5 million bpd).
