The European Central Bank has selected 35 companies, including Deutsche Bank, Revolut, and Stripe, for a closed pilot of the digital euro. The trials are set to start in the second half of 2027 and will run for 12 months.

Participants will test peer-to-peer transfers, in-store and online payments, mobile payments, and offline system functionality. The pilot will involve the ECB and 19 eurozone central banks, though a final decision on issuing a central bank digital currency has not yet been made.
