BoE Holds Rates at 3.75%, Dovish Tone Weighs on Pound Outlook

The Bank of England kept its policy rate at 3.75% and Governor Bailey signaled no intention to hike despite US-Iran tensions, adopting a dovish stance that pressures sterling.

GBPUSD

The Bank of England left its key interest rate unchanged at 3.75%, a decision accompanied by a firmly dovish message from Governor Andrew Bailey. Despite escalating geopolitical risks from the US-Iran conflict, Bailey emphasized there would be no shift toward tightening.

Strategists at UOB noted that the hold reinforces a cautious BoE, as policymakers remain focused on supporting growth rather than countering inflation pressures from external shocks. This stance contrasts with more hawkish central banks elsewhere, potentially dragging on the pound.

Market participants will now assess whether the ongoing tensions alter the UK’s economic outlook enough to force a reassessment, but for the moment the BoE’s tone suggests any rate hikes are far off.
