Bank of Canada Holds Rate at 2.25%, Macklem Signals Patience

The Bank of Canada kept its policy rate unchanged at 2.25% on Wednesday, in line with expectations, with Governor Tiff Macklem signaling a patient approach to future moves.

The Bank of Canada held its benchmark interest rate steady at 2.25% at its latest meeting, a decision widely anticipated by markets. The accompanying statement from Governor Tiff Macklem struck a cautious tone, suggesting the central bank is in no hurry to adjust policy further.

Macklem highlighted that the current rate level remains appropriate given the economic outlook, and that policymakers will wait for clearer signals before making any changes. The neutral-to-mildly dovish stance indicates that the BoC is comfortable holding rates while monitoring inflation and growth trends.
