UAE Plans New Fujairah Port to Bypass Strait of Hormuz

The UAE is developing a new multipurpose port in Fujairah, allowing containers to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, with overland trucking to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The United Arab Emirates is moving forward with plans to build a new port and container terminal on its east coast, according to the Financial Times. The project is designed to provide an alternative route that avoids the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, which has become a flashpoint in regional tensions.

Dubai's DP World is in discussions to develop the multipurpose port in the coastal area of Fujairah. Containers would enter and leave the country without transiting the Strait, then be moved by truck overland to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and neighboring Gulf states. The move reflects how ongoing conflict involving Iran continues to reshape global trade routes and logistics.
