US Withholds $6B Iranian Frozen Funds, Cites Unmet Obligations

The United States has not released any of the $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds designated for humanitarian goods, and will not do so until Tehran fulfills its obligations, a US administration official told the New York Post.

The United States has not released any of the $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds that were earmarked for humanitarian goods under a previous memorandum of understanding, according to a US administration official cited by the New York Post.

The official stated that the funds will remain blocked until Iran meets its commitments under the agreement. The MOU, reached earlier this year, had allowed for the transfer of the funds to Qatar for restricted use in purchasing food, medicine, and other humanitarian supplies.

The announcement signals a hardening of the US stance on the issue amid broader tensions between Washington and Tehran. No timeline was given for when Iran might fulfill its obligations.
