PJM Declares Emergency Maximum, Orders Offline Generation to Ramp Up

PJM Interconnection has declared an Emergency Maximum, directing all offline generation to start immediately and ramp to full output to support the U.S. electric grid. The operator also urges member dispatchers to consider public appeals for electricity conservation and notify relevant government agencies.

The PJM Interconnection, a regional transmission organization (RTO) serving 13 states and Washington D.C., has declared an Emergency Maximum condition. The directive requires all currently offline generation units to start immediately and ramp to full output to support the U.S. electric grid.

PJM is also urging its member dispatchers to consider issuing public appeals for electricity conservation and to notify relevant government agencies. The declaration indicates significant strain on the grid, likely due to extreme weather or supply shortages.
