Iran Fires Missile at Commercial Vessel in Strait of Hormuz, Closes Waterway
Iran fired a missile at a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, hitting and damaging it, defying a US ultimatum. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the waterway is closed until further notice.
According to US officials, Iran launched a missile strike on a commercial vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz, causing damage. The attack comes just hours after President Trump demanded that Iran guarantee safe passage through the strait.
The IRGC stated: "The Strait of Hormuz will be closed until further notice and until the end of the American interventions in this area." The targeted vessel was using a southern route that Oman had proposed reopening without restrictions.
The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, represents a major escalation in regional tensions and threatens energy supply routes.
