Poland Scraps MiG-29 Transfer to Ukraine After Drone Tech Swap Collapses

Poland will not transfer its remaining MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine after a planned exchange for Ukrainian drone technology fell through, sources say. The aging aircraft will be gradually retired.

Poland has decided not to transfer its remaining MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine following the collapse of a planned swap for Ukrainian drone technology, according to sources. The deal had been under discussion as a way to support Ukraine's air defense while giving Poland access to advanced drone know-how.

With the exchange now off the table, the Polish military will gradually retire the aging MiG-29s as they reach the end of their service life. A specific timeline for the phase-out remains unclear, but the aircraft will be decommissioned according to a predetermined schedule.

The news highlights the broader challenges in military equipment transfers between NATO allies and Ukraine, where operational needs and maintenance realities often complicate planned exchanges.
