Indonesian Rupiah Slips as Bank Indonesia Governor Resigns Unexpectedly

The Indonesian rupiah depreciated for a second consecutive day after Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo unexpectedly stepped down. USD/IDR rose to around 18,130 in early European trade.

The Indonesian rupiah extended its losses on Tuesday, pushing USD/IDR higher for the second day in a row. The pair traded near 18,130 during early European hours, reflecting selling pressure on the local currency.

The move followed the surprise resignation of Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo. Details of the departure were not immediately available, but the announcement rattled investor confidence in the rupiah.

The central bank's leadership vacuum adds uncertainty at a time when rate differentials and global risk appetite already weigh on emerging-market assets.
