Chinese Yuan Fixing Guidance Fades, Path Less Anchored – OCBC

OCBC's Christopher Wong notes that renminbi appreciation guidance is weakening, with narrowing CNH-CNY fixing spreads and smaller daily adjustments, signaling a policy shift toward yuan stability.

OCBC strategist Christopher Wong observes that the renminbi's appreciation guidance is diminishing. Key indicators include narrowing gaps between offshore (CNH) and onshore (CNY) fixing rates, as well as moderated daily adjustment magnitudes.

Policymakers appear to be moving away from active appreciation signals and toward a stance focused on yuan stability. This shift reduces the anchoring effect of the fixing mechanism, leaving the exchange rate path less predictable in the short term.
