Qatar PM Urges Implementation of Hormuz Navigation Accord

Qatar’s prime minister has called for full adherence to a memorandum of understanding and guaranteed freedom of navigation in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the foreign ministry said.

Qatar’s prime minister stressed the need to implement what was agreed in a memorandum of understanding, the foreign ministry stated. He also underlined the imperative of ensuring unhindered maritime passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

The statement did not specify which parties signed the MoU or its particular terms. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, and any disruption to shipping there tends to raise geopolitical risk premiums in energy markets.

Regular diplomatic calls for freedom of navigation in the strait have been a fixture amid heightened regional tensions, though they rarely move markets on their own unless accompanied by concrete actions.
