Iran's Hormuz Closure Cuts Non-Oil Trade With China by 75%

Chinese customs data reveals Iran's non-oil exports to China plunged 75% year-on-year between March and June 2026, while oil shipments also dropped sharply amid the Strait of Hormuz closure.

Newly released Chinese customs data shows Iran's non-oil trade with China fell to just $830 million between March and June 2026, compared to $3.3 billion in the same period last year—a decline of roughly 75%.

Kpler shipping data reviewed by Iran International indicates that Iranian oil exports to China have also suffered. Average daily unloadings at Chinese ports dropped from 1.74 million barrels per day in April to around 550,000 barrels per day in the first half of July.

The figures suggest the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has severely disrupted Iran's economic ties with its largest trading partner, far more than it affected China's commerce with other Gulf nations.
