Canadian Dollar Falls to One-Week Low vs USD on BoC-Fed Divergence, Tariff Risks

The Canadian dollar dropped to its weakest in a week against the US dollar as traders weigh diverging central bank policies and ongoing tariff threats from the Trump administration.

USDCAD

The Canadian dollar weakened to a one-week low against the US dollar on Tuesday, with USD/CAD gaining for a second straight session. The pair rebounded from the 1.4000 psychological support level, which marked its lowest point since June 17.

The move is driven by growing expectations that the Bank of Canada will cut rates further while the Federal Reserve remains cautious, creating policy divergence. Additionally, renewed concerns over US tariffs on Canadian exports are weighing on the loonie.

Traders are now watching for further catalysts, including upcoming Canadian economic data and any developments in US-Canada trade relations.
