Rabobank: UK Energy Shock Keeps Risks Elevated as CPI Falls to 2.6%

Rabobank Senior Macro Strategist Stefan Koopman notes that UK headline CPI dropped to 2.6% in June, below the MPC's forecast, with broad-based downside surprises, but the energy shock keeps risks elevated.

GBPUSD

Rabobank's Senior Macro Strategist Stefan Koopman commented on the latest UK inflation data, highlighting that headline CPI declined to 2.6% in June, undershooting the Monetary Policy Committee's forecast. The miss was accompanied by broad-based downside surprises across several categories, pointing to easing domestic price pressures.

However, Koopman warned that the energy shock continues to pose elevated risks to the economic outlook. Despite the softer inflation reading, uncertainty around energy costs and their potential impact on growth and consumer spending remains a key concern for the Bank of England.

The combination of a lower CPI print and persistent energy risks suggests a challenging environment for policymakers as they balance inflation control with economic stability.
