Dollar Faces Asymmetric Risks on Fed Hike Odds, DBS Notes

DBS Group Research's Philip Wee highlights that the dollar is currently trading on divergent themes against developed market and Asia-ex Japan currencies, largely driven by Federal Reserve rate expectations.

Futures markets are pricing a 38% chance of a surprise rate hike at what would be Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh's second FOMC meeting. This creates asymmetric risks for the greenback, as markets weigh the possibility of an unexpected tightening move.

The diverging performance suggests uneven sensitivity to Fed policy shifts across currency pairs, with the dollar's path hinging on the upcoming decision.
