Crypto Cyber Threats: $23.75M Stolen from Ostium DEX, AI Malware Targets Wallets

A roundup of this week’s critical cybersecurity incidents includes a $23.75 million heist from decentralized exchange Ostium and the Dolphin X trojan employing AI to identify high-value cryptocurrency wallets.

This week saw several significant cybersecurity incidents intersecting with the cryptocurrency space.

Decentralized exchange Ostium was hit by an attack exploiting its off-chain infrastructure, resulting in a theft of $23.75 million. The incident highlights the ongoing risks associated with the security of trading platforms’ backend systems.

The Dolphin X trojan has been updated to use artificial intelligence for victim scoring. The malware scans for valuable cryptocurrency wallets, allowing attackers to prioritize high-net-worth targets. Meanwhile, hackers may have obtained data on roughly 6,000 South Korean diplomats in a separate breach.

In ransom news, Swiss train manufacturer Stadler Rail refused to pay $12.2 million demanded by hackers, marking another example of corporate resistance to extortion.
