U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has declared that the current administration under President Trump will not permit the creation of a digital dollar. "There will be no central bank digital currency," Bessent said, adding that such a currency "would be the first step toward surveillance, so we have ruled this option out of discussion."

The comments reinforce the administration's clear opposition to a U.S. CBDC.
