US launches fresh strikes on Iran, ceasefire in Strait of Hormuz collapses

The US has launched new airstrikes on Iran, hitting over 80 targets in and around the Strait of Hormuz, days after a fragile ceasefire under the Versailles accord collapsed. President Trump declared the agreement over but left the door open to further talks.

The United States has initiated a new wave of airstrikes against Iran, striking more than 80 military and infrastructure targets in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz. The operation comes just days after a tenuous ceasefire—part of the so-called Versailles accord—fell apart.

President Donald Trump announced that the latest truce is effectively dead, though he did not close the door on potential diplomatic engagement. The escalation raises fresh concerns over oil transit through the strategic strait, a key chokepoint for global crude flows.

No immediate casualty figures or damage assessments have been reported. The Strait of Hormuz remains a flashpoint for broader geopolitical risk in the region.
