South32 Approves $725M Sierra Gorda Expansion, Capacity to 60MTPA

South32 approved the Sierra Gorda fourth grinding line project, expanding capacity from ~48 Mtpa to 60 Mtpa with a $725M capital expenditure. First production is expected mid-FY30, full production in FY31, and the expansion is projected to reduce operating unit costs by ~10%.

South32 has given the green light for the Sierra Gorda fourth grinding line project. The expansion will boost processing capacity from approximately 48 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) to 60 Mtpa. Capital expenditure is set at $725 million.

First production is anticipated in the middle of fiscal year 2030 (mid-FY30), with full production targeted by FY31. The company expects the increased capacity to lower operating unit costs by roughly 10%.
