SK Hynix CEO Warns Memory Chip Shortage May Persist Beyond 2030 on AI Demand

SK Hynix’s CEO cautioned that the global memory chip shortage could stretch past 2030, driven by surging AI demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM). Production expansion remains difficult due to high costs, long construction timelines, and complex manufacturing.

SK Hynix's CEO has warned that the global shortage of memory chips could continue beyond 2030, driven by rapidly growing demand from artificial intelligence applications. High-bandwidth memory (HBM), used in AI chips, is expected to see demand outpace supply for years.

Expanding production is challenging due to high capital costs, lengthy facility construction, and the complexity of the manufacturing process. The company believes the semiconductor industry must significantly increase investment to meet future AI-related demand.
