Saudi Arabia Forms 14-Nation Coalition to Protect Red Sea Shipping

Saudi Arabia and 13 other countries have announced a new international maritime coalition to safeguard freedom of navigation through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

The coalition is aimed at ensuring the security of one of the world's most important maritime trade routes, according to a Reuters report. The Bab al-Mandeb Strait is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments and commercial vessels.

Details on member countries and operational scope were not immediately provided. The announcement comes amid heightened regional tensions and repeated attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea area.

The move signals a coordinated effort to protect transit lanes that are vital for energy supplies and global trade, though no immediate market impact was evident.
