Critical Zcash Bug Allows Counterfeit Minting, ZEC Plunges 50%+

A vulnerability in Zcash could have enabled unlimited counterfeit ZEC; the token dropped over 50% with liquidations exceeding $100 million.

A critical security vulnerability was discovered in the Zcash protocol that could have allowed attackers to mint unlimited counterfeit ZEC tokens. Details of the bug were disclosed in a recent news recap.

Following the disclosure, ZEC experienced a severe selloff, falling more than 50% as liquidations surpassed $100 million. The sharp decline reflects market concern over the potential impact of the bug, even though it was reportedly patched.
