U.S. stocks finished mixed on Tuesday, as gains in the Dow were offset by modest declines in the tech-heavy Nasdaq and the broad S&P 500. The Dow Jones Industrial Average unofficially rose 207.55 points, or 0.40%, to 51,919.20.

In contrast, the S&P 500 shed 2.13 points, or 0.03%, closing unofficially at 7,406.17. The Nasdaq Composite fell 172.54 points, or 0.69%, to 24,965.15.

The mixed performance came amid light news flow, with little to push the market decisively in either direction. Sector rotation was evident as more defensive value shares gained while growth names struggled.

Investors now await upcoming economic data for further direction.
