Standard Chartered: China Politburo to Focus on Fiscal Execution, Not New Stimulus

Standard Chartered economists expect China's July Politburo meeting to prioritize implementation of existing fiscal plans rather than new stimulus, with fiscal execution likely accelerating in the second half of the year.

Standard Chartered economists Carol Liao and Shuang Ding forecast that China's upcoming July Politburo meeting will emphasize executing previously announced fiscal measures rather than introducing fresh stimulus.

The analysts note that fiscal execution slowed significantly after being front-loaded in Q1. They expect activity to pick up in H2 as the government focuses on implementation.

This assessment suggests a cautious approach from Beijing, prioritizing spending efficiency over additional borrowing or tax cuts in the near term.
