Khamenei’s Sons Appear Over His Body, Successor Mojtaba Absent

Three of Ali Khamenei’s sons held prayers over his body in their first public appearance since his death in late February. Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeded him as Iran’s third supreme leader, was not present.

Three sons of late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei—Mostafa, Masoud and Meysam Hosseini Khamenei—appeared on Sunday to recite prayers over their father's body, marking their first public appearance since his death in late February.

Mojtaba Khamenei, who has become Iran’s third supreme leader following his father’s death, was notably absent from the ceremony. The event comes amid ongoing uncertainty about the transition of power and the stability of Iran’s political system.

The appearance of Khamenei’s sons underscores the familial dimension of the leadership succession, while Mojtaba’s absence raises questions about the internal dynamics of Iran’s ruling establishment.
