Iran's senior sources have stated that the country insists on maintaining control over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments. According to the reports, Iran may resume charging ships for passage as soon as mid-August.

Additionally, Iranian forces shot at four ships over the weekend, escalating tensions in the region. Tehran has made clear that it will not discuss other issues in ongoing peace talks until an agreement on Hormuz control is reached.

The strait is divided between the territorial waters of Iran and Oman, complicating any unilateral action.
