Iran Considers New Fees for Ships Passing Through Strait of Hormuz

Iran's ambassador to China announced at the World Peace Forum that Tehran is considering introducing service fees for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, with special rates for allied nations.

Speaking at the World Peace Forum in Beijing, Iran’s ambassador to China, Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, stated that Tehran is evaluating new service fees for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. He emphasised that countries that have supported Iran would receive "special" treatment, though details remain unspecified.

The ambassador also rejected any third-party intervention in the matter, asserting Iran's sovereign right to manage the strategic waterway. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil and gas shipments, and any additional costs could ripple through energy markets.

No timeline or fee structure has been announced. The comments come amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region, with potential implications for shipping costs and energy prices.
