Interactive Brokers Opened the Door to (Almost) Every AI Tool. One Name Is Missing

Interactive Brokers has opened its AI account connector to any tool built on the Model Context Protocol, allowing clients to link accounts from Claude Code, Cursor, Perplexity and Windsurf without going through certified marketplaces.

Interactive Brokers has opened its AI account connector to any tool built on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), effective Tuesday. Clients can now link their accounts from AI assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor, Perplexity and Windsurf, rather than being limited to certified marketplace connectors from ChatGPT, Claude and Grok.

The connector works via a URL that clients paste into an AI tool's custom server settings, then authorize through Interactive Brokers' own login screen for a single account. The underlying MCP-based integration has been live since June, when the broker first connected to Anthropic's Claude. ChatGPT and Grok were added three weeks later, but those required certification by the AI provider. The new open URL removes that restriction.

Interactive Brokers CEO Milan Galik said the move reflects the firm's history of open APIs, giving clients flexibility to choose their preferred AI applications. The broker has not disclosed usage numbers since the June launch.

The change places Interactive Brokers among a growing number of brokers and platforms integrating AI agents. Spotware opened cTrader to AI agents in May, ThinkMarkets launched ChelseaAI in June (allowing AI to place orders autonomously), MetaQuotes added MCP support to a MetaTrader 5 beta in July, and prop firm FundedNext shipped a read-only MCP server this month. Interactive Brokers' approach remains human-in-the-loop: the AI drafts trade instructions, but the client must manually convert them into orders on an IBKR platform.

The AI connector is part of a broader product push at Interactive Brokers, which has launched natural language stock screeners covering over 70,000 stocks, an Investment Themes search, the Ask IBKR portfolio assistant, and automated news summaries. The broker reported Q2 revenue of $1.9 billion across 5.2 million client accounts, with commission revenue up 30% to $673 million.

The AI Integration works across Client Portal, IBKR Desktop, IBKR GlobalTrader, IBKR Mobile, and Trader Workstation, with each authorization covering one account. Support for Google Gemini is still pending.
