Hoskinson: Quantum Computers Could Strip Bitcoin of Its Leadership
Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson warns that Bitcoin’s rigid upgrade process could cause it to lose its market lead to more nimble blockchains as quantum computing advances. He argues Cardano’s on-chain governance would allow it to easily shift to quantum-resistant cryptography.
Charles Hoskinson, founder of Cardano, cautioned that Bitcoin’s inability to rapidly update its protocol poses a greater threat than quantum computing itself. If the network fails to implement quantum-resistant cryptography in time, he argued, Bitcoin risks ceding its dominant position to more adaptable blockchains.
Hoskinson highlighted Cardano’s on-chain governance model as a key differentiator, saying it would allow the community to vote on and execute a migration to quantum-safe infrastructure efficiently.
Alongside the remarks, he teased a forthcoming network upgrade that he claims will boost Cardano’s performance by a factor of 60.
