China's Weekly LNG Imports Surge to 22-Month High, Up 137% WoW
China's weekly LNG deliveries jumped 137% week-over-week to nearly 2.0 million metric tons, the highest in 22 months, amid stockpiling by the world's largest importer.
Weekly LNG deliveries into mainland China surged 137% week-over-week in the seven days to July 19, reaching nearly 2.0 million metric tons — the highest volume in 22 months. Imports have more than quadrupled since mid-February.
The same week saw the arrival of the first US-origin LNG cargo to China since February 2025. This followed an 8.3% year-over-year rise in monthly LNG imports in June, to 5.68 million tons, marking a second consecutive monthly increase.
Australia supplied 43% of China’s LNG imports in July so far, well ahead of Malaysia, Russia, and Qatar. The sharp accumulation of shipments indicates China is actively stockpiling LNG.
