Wall Street Opens Lower: S&P Drops 1.6%, Nasdaq Falls 2.38%

U.S. stock indices opened sharply lower. The S&P 500 fell 1.61% to 7,352.61, the Nasdaq Composite dropped 2.38% to 25,542.70, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.69% to 51,354.54.

Major U.S. equity benchmarks opened in the red on Tuesday, with the S&P 500 falling 120.18 points, or 1.61%, to 7,352.61 shortly after the trading session began.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite suffered the steepest decline, losing 623.90 points, or 2.38%, to trade at 25,542.70.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed 358.17 points, or 0.69%, to 51,354.54. The broad-based sell-off indicates risk-off sentiment at the open.
