The US Census Bureau reported Wednesday that retail sales increased 0.9% month-over-month in May, reaching $763.7 billion. This figure surpassed market expectations of a 0.5% rise and marks an acceleration from April's 0.5% gain.
On an annual basis, retail sales climbed 6.9% in May. The stronger-than-expected data suggests resilient consumer spending, which may influence Federal Reserve policy expectations.
