US Net Capital Inflows Surge to Record $884 Billion

US net capital inflows hit a record $884 billion in the year through April 2026, nearly tripling since early 2025, driven by surging private and official purchases of US assets.

Foreign investment into the US market has reached unprecedented levels. Net capital inflows — the total of outside money entering US financial markets via private investors and official institutions — soared to $884 billion in the 12 months ending April 2026.

This figure has nearly tripled since the start of 2025. For context, the previous peak in 2021 was around $400 billion, less than half the current level.

Private purchases of US equities jumped to $763 billion in April, an all-time high. At the same time, official institutional purchases rose to a record $121 billion, more than doubling since the beginning of the year.

The data underscores the global appetite for US assets, with both private and official buyers increasing their exposure at an extraordinary pace.
