UK to Restrict Social Media Access for Under-16s by Spring 2027

The UK government will impose restrictions on social media access for individuals under 16, following the Australian model. The relevant regulations are set to be adopted by the end of December, allowing authorities to implement initial measures by spring 2027.

The ban targets platforms with algorithmic feeds and original content, including Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and X. Exceptions include WhatsApp, Signal, educational and commercial platforms, as well as music streaming services.
