Richest Americans' Wealth Reaches Record 12% of National Income
The top 0.00001% of Americans now control about 12% of US national income, a record high that has more than quadrupled since the 2008 Financial Crisis, fueled by surging equity and real estate markets.
The wealthiest Americans have amassed a historically unprecedented share of national income. According to data highlighted by The Kobeissi Letter, the top 0.00001% now controls approximately 12% of total US national income — a measure that includes wages, business profits, and investment income.
This figure has more than quadrupled since the 2008 Financial Crisis. In contrast, it never exceeded 1% between the 1950s and the 1990s. The surge is attributed to record gains in equity markets and rising real estate prices, which have primarily benefited asset owners.
