North American equity allocations near record highs, surpassing pre-bear market peaks

Equity allocations across US and Canadian households, pensions, insurers, and investment funds have climbed to roughly 60% of financial assets, exceeding levels seen before the bear markets of 2000, 2007, and 2021.

According to data cited by The Kobeissi Letter, equity allocations across US and Canadian households, pension funds, insurance companies, and investment funds now stand at approximately 60% of financial assets—near an all-time high.

This level surpasses peaks recorded just before previous bear markets in 2000, 2007, and 2021. For comparison:

  • Scandinavian and European investors hold around 50% and 31% in equities, respectively.
  • Japan's equity allocation is only about 20%, roughly one-third of the US and Canada.

No other region allocates a larger share of its wealth to stocks than North America.
