India Demands GitHub Restrict Access to Dorsey’s Bitchat Decentralized Messenger Repos

Indian authorities have ordered GitHub to limit access to repositories of the decentralized messenger Bitchat, created by Jack Dorsey, amid protests in Delhi where such apps were used during mobile internet shutdowns.

Indian authorities have formally requested that GitHub limit access to the source code repositories of Bitchat, a decentralized messaging application founded by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey.

The order emerged during recent protests in Delhi, as demonstrators used Bluetooth-based applications to communicate while mobile internet services were suspended. Dorsey publicly criticized the government's demand.

Despite the request, the Bitchat repositories were still accessible online at the time of this report. The incident highlights ongoing tensions between central authorities and decentralized communication tools.
