EIA Forecasts US Oil Output at 13.72 Million Bpd in 2026, Up Slightly; Natgas Output Also Rises

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) projects US crude oil output will average 13.72 million barrels per day in 2026, up from a prior estimate of 13.65 million bpd. For natural gas, output is seen rising to 111 billion cubic feet per day in 2026 from 110.6 bcf/d, while 2027 demand is forecast lower.

In its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook, the EIA raised its US oil production forecast for 2026 to 13.72 million bpd from 13.65 million bpd. The 2027 outlook was also nudged higher to 14.15 million bpd versus the prior 14.1 million bpd.

For natural gas, the agency now expects 2026 output of 111 bcf/d, up from 110.6 bcf/d. However, the 2027 demand estimate was trimmed to 113.6 bcf/d from 115 bcf/d.

On the demand side, the EIA left its US petroleum demand estimates unchanged at 20.7 million bpd for both 2026 and 2027.
