Dow Jones Industrial Average Hits Record Above 51,000 as Investors Rotate Out of Chip Stocks

The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged 1.7% to close above 51,000, reaching a new all-time high, amid a rotation out of semiconductor stocks.

DJI

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) rallied to a record close on Thursday, gaining 865 points, or 1.7%, to finish above the 51,000 mark. The index also touched an intraday high near 51,300.

Beneath the headline move, a clear rotation was underway. Investors shifted capital away from semiconductor stocks, dragging on the broader tech sector, while traditional cyclical and industrial names powered the Dow to its new high.

The split tape suggests a sector rotation rather than broad-based buying, with the Dow's gains masking weakness in other areas of the market.
