BOJ Osaka Branch Warns Rising B2B Costs May Hit Consumer Prices by Summer

A Bank of Japan Osaka branch manager noted that companies have rapidly passed on higher costs in business-to-business prices, and this could begin affecting consumer prices from summer, warranting close attention to consumption trends.

The Bank of Japan's Osaka branch manager stated that firms have swiftly transmitted increased costs into B2B prices. This pass-through may start influencing consumer prices as early as this summer, according to the manager.

The official flagged the need to monitor consumption trends closely, suggesting that the BOJ is watching for second-round effects on household spending. The comments come as Japan's economy shows signs of sustained inflation pressures.

While no specific policy action was announced, the remarks add to the debate on whether the BOJ will adjust its ultra-loose monetary stance later this year.
