Australia Regulator Sues Amazon Over Prime Video Ads

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has taken Amazon to court, alleging the company used unfair contract terms when introducing advertisements to Prime Video, affecting over one million subscribers.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has filed a lawsuit against Amazon, accusing the e-commerce giant of inserting unfair contract terms while rolling out advertisements on Prime Video. The regulator claims these terms breach Australian consumer law.

According to the ACCC, more than one million Prime subscribers were impacted between November 2023 and August 2025. The agency is seeking penalties, consumer redress, and other orders from the court.

This legal action underscores increasing scrutiny of digital platform practices in Australia.
