AUD/USD Softens Near 0.7000 as US VP Cancels Iran Talks

The Australian Dollar edged lower to around 0.7010 against the US Dollar during Asian trading on Friday, following reports that US Vice President JD Vance called off a trip to Switzerland for talks with Iran. The cancellation has heightened geopolitical uncertainty, weighing on the Aussie.

AUDUSD

The AUD/USD pair slipped to near 0.7010 in Asian trading on Friday, as the Australian Dollar softened against the greenback. The move came after reports that US Vice President JD Vance canceled his planned trip to Switzerland for negotiations with Iran, stoking concerns over the outlook for US-Iran diplomacy.

The unexpected cancellation adds a layer of geopolitical risk, which tends to undermine risk-sensitive currencies like the Australian Dollar. The US Dollar, meanwhile, saw some safe-haven demand on the back of the uncertainty. Traders now await fresh catalysts, including potential developments in trade or central bank commentary.
