Trade Republic Brings Current Accounts to Greece with 3% Interest Offer

Trade Republic is bringing current accounts paying 3% interest to customers in Greece, alongside a busy week of broker news including EU scrutiny of Binance and CFI's seven-day gold trading.

Trade Republic has started offering current accounts to customers in Greece, attaching a 3% interest rate to the product. The launch marks another step by the German brokerage beyond trading and into day-to-day banking services for retail clients.

The Greek rollout lands in the middle of a dense stretch of industry developments. EU regulators have raised questions over Binance's use of reverse solicitation as they examine how the crypto exchange reaches users across the bloc, putting the company's European access model under the spotlight.

Product and platform moves

On the product side, CFI introduced seven-day gold trading, extending access to the metal beyond the traditional weekday window, while Capital.com broadened its range with the addition of stocks and ETFs. Prop firm The5ers linked client trading accounts to AI assistants ChatGPT and Claude, giving users a way to query account data through the tools.

Regulatory activity was equally busy. The UK's Financial Conduct Authority opened a crypto authorisation window, Germany stepped up its efforts against trading fraud, the CFTC filed suit against Cash FX, and prediction market Polymarket added new trading safeguards.

On the corporate front, EC Markets doubled its UK revenue, ThinkMarkets returned to profit, and Alpaca continued building out its Southeast Asia expansion. In the prop trading segment, the brand assets of MyForexFunds were sold to a Dubai-based firm, FundedSeat shut down, and Valbury adopted the DXtrade platform. Revolut also moved into Argentina.

Separately, industry data highlighted how concentrated retail trading profits can be: the top 1% of winning accounts captured 66.5% of total profit, a figure that underscores the challenge brokers face when a small group of skilled traders drives the bulk of gains.
