Swissquote UK Annual Pre-Tax Loss Climbs 52%; Parent Follows with £5 Million Injection
Swissquote UK reported a 52% wider pre-tax loss of £1.76 million for 2025 as revenue fell 39%. Its parent later injected £5 million and the FCA expanded its permissions.
Swissquote Ltd, the UK-regulated arm of Swiss financial group Swissquote, saw its pre-tax loss widen by 52% to £1.76 million for the year ended 31 December 2025, according to newly published financial statements.
Gross turnover fell 39% to £320,921, while interest receivable and similar income dropped 53% to £188,670. Administrative expenses rose 17% to £2.27 million, outpacing the revenue decline and pushing the bottom line deeper into the red. A prior-period tax adjustment reduced the net loss to £1.70 million.
After the reporting period, Swissquote Group Holding Ltd injected £5 million into the UK subsidiary in January 2026. The following month, the UK Financial Conduct Authority approved a Variation of Permission application, expanding the firm's regulatory scope to support new products and services.
The balance sheet weakened during the year. Shareholders' funds fell 40% to £2.48 million, and client money held in segregated accounts declined 51% to £2.90 million. Cash and cash equivalents stood at £4.91 million. Trade and other payables totalled £3.52 million, including £2.07 million owed to group undertakings.
Despite the losses, Swissquote UK continued to invest in its trading infrastructure. The company capitalised £764,432 in software development costs for its GIA, ISA, and SIPP platforms, which remained under development and not yet amortised. Right-of-use assets became fully depreciated during the year, and lease liabilities were fully settled.
Staffing costs rose to £1.22 million on a headcount of nine employees, unchanged from a year earlier. Directors' remuneration increased to £548,711, while share-based compensation expense declined to £36,971. No dividend was paid or proposed.
The company said it is undertaking a restructuring programme "to return the business to profitability." Swissquote UK operates on a matched-principal basis with Swissquote Bank Ltd, with all client trades matched back-to-back.
